| (BrE) index accident /verzekerings/ tarief verbonden schade Explanation: Index strikes me as a scale of rates, normally the accident tables for claiming compensation are contained in the tetxtbooks of Kemp & Kemp or McGregor on Damages e.g. GBP 100 for a black eye, GBP 1,000 for a tooth knocked out by an attacker etc., GBP 500,000 for knee-capping etc. I can't, though, recall the UK Government's 'index accidents' from my day. This claim arose from a road traffic accident on 15 April 2015. The Claimant suggested she was waiting at a roundabout when the Insured vehicle collided with the rear of her vehicle resulting in her sustaining personal injury. Although the Claimant attended her GP some five days after the date of the accident, she only submitted a Claims Notification Form on 26 February 2016, some 10 months after the index accident. Op grond van dit indexongeval is er een postwhiplashsyndroom ontstaan (whiplash associated disorder) op grond waarvan betr. lichamelijke klachten kreeg, met name in de nek-schouderregio, uitstralend naar de armen. Autorijden, bureauwerk en huishoudelijke taken konden daardoor niet meer spontaan worden gedaan en kostten opeens veel meer moeite. Kort samengevat, de klachten behorende bij het postwhiplashsyndroom zijn de aanleiding tot de eerder genoemde psychiatrische klachten, zoals onrust, somberheid, onmachtsgevoelens, concentratiestoornissen. Deze psychische symptomen worden veroorzaakt door de acceptatieproblematiek van dit postwhiplashsyndroom op grond van betr.’s karakterstructuur, namelijk een hoog streefniveau dat geen zwakheden of falen toelaat. Preëxistent zijn er geen aanwijzingen voor psychiatrische ziekten. Ook met betrekking tot het eerder overkomen auto-ongeval op zestienjarige leeftijd is er geen pathologische rouwreactie herkenbaar. Wel is, in overeenstemming met betr.’s karakterstructuur, dit voorval gerationaliseerd en emotioneel afgekapseld. Na het indexongeval zijn de bovengenoemde aanpassingsstoornissen ontstaan als reactie daarop. Betr.’s huidige toestandsbeeld wordt dus enerzijds bepaald door de symptomatologie van het postwhiplashsyndroom en aan de andere kant de verwerking van de beperkingen daarvan door haar karakterstructuur, welke verwerking heeft geleid tot aanpassingsstoornissen met depressieve en angstige kenmerken. De alexythymie op grond van haar karakterstructuur maakt nog eens dat zij angstige en depressieve emoties niet goed kan differentiëren en thuisbrengen. De alexythymie is karakterologisch bepaald en dus geen gevolg van het indexongeval. Het is niet waarschijnlijk dat de aanpassingsstoornissen zoals betr. die nu manifesteert, zonder het indexongeval zouden zijn opgetreden. Het postwhiplashsyndroom als gevolg van het indexongeval speelde precies in op betr.’s zwakke plek in haar karakter, namelijk haar hoge streefniveau om alles strak en perfectionistisch te ondernemen.
