English term or phrase: non-in-kind technology
Alternative technologies based on low-GWP fluids or other non-in-kind technologies are today technically feasible in most relevant fields of application. In energy-consuming applications such as refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps and in energy-preserving applications such as building and appliance insulation foams, low-GWP technologies can potentially achieve an equivalent performance in most cases. With ongoing research and development constantly improving their safety and performance characteristics and further reducing their cost, such options have the potential to gradually replace technologies based on F-gases with high GWP, thereby contributing to a cost-effective transition to a climate- friendly, low-carbon economy.

Explanation:
Also "not-in-kind technology" it would seem according to Google.

Example sentence(s):
  • If an equipment item is to be replaced with one that is functionally identical, i.e., if the new item is built to the same specification as the old one, then the change is ‘in-kind’. Otherwise it is ‘not-in-kind’, and the MOC process has to be fol

chlorofluorocarbon n. Abbr. CFC

Any of various halocarbon compounds consisting of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine, once used widely as aerosol propellants and refrigerants. Chlorofluorocarbons are believed to cause depletion of the atmospheric ozone layer

New systems, materials, and processes that represent potential CFC replacement technologies are being developed rapidly. Technology options already available or identified by the user industries as their primary development focus for first generation replacement of CFCs, whether fluorocarbon
or
not-in-kind (non-fluorocarbon) alternatives,

were given first consideration with regard to quantitative analysis of their DIRECT and INDIRECT effects and their TEWI. These are referred to as "current generation" alternative technologies in this report and are distinguished from "next generation" alternative technologies.

But we've since learned that F-gases are not an “environmental alternative” at all. They’re responsible for some 17% of cumulative greenhouse gases currently in our atmosphere (as of 2005). Some F-gases actually have a "Global Warming Potential" (GWP) value that is thousands of times higher than carbon dioxide. (Check out this chart on the EPA’s website for more info).
