Explanation:
carbon copy is from ancient times when there was no printers. It is actually a piece of thin indigo paper you would use below your handwriting so the contents would transfer to the paper below. The expression reamained nowdays whwn sending an email as a copy to another recepient (CC) of BCC (which stands for blind carbon copy meaning it is not disclosed to recepient who else the mail was sent to.

agree  Davor Ivic: not only the format, but content as well. An identical copy. I really don't see how it may be applied to the translation, as it is plain identical copy of an document, not translated. Weird actually. an archaic item that somehow got a new meaning today
