a "Barnacle" is a small one inch grey shell which grows in groups or clusters of shells stuck on the sea walls along the tide watermark .They usaually grow along side with mussels and oysters. Sometimes they grow like infestations on wooded boats and need to be removed on dry dock by hand every year. In spain they are a delicacy.

Hrane se algama koje stružu s površine kamena svojom čvrstom radulom. Razmnožavaju se od proljeća do jeseni. Meso im je tvrdo i ukusno. Svježi sadrže oko 2% masnoća, 24% bjelančevina i 2% ugljičnih hidrata, ukupne kalorične vrijednosti 57 Cal/100 g. Sakuplja se za jelo tijekom cijele godine za vlastitu potrošnju."
