Greetings,

I'm looking for the right Bulgarian word which, for example, might be used of Баба Ванга (1911–96) by her supporters.

Please give the correct word stress.

All the best,

Simon

PS Where is the stress on the name Ванга, please? What is it short for?

disagree  Christo Metschkaroff: Само да разбере баба ти Ванга, че я наричаш "врАчка".... или гледАчка... А цигАнките ще Умрат от радост, че ги приравняваш с НЕЯ!

soothsayer
пророк

Explanation:
The stress of the word is on the last syllable [про`рок].
If you want to use this word to call Ванга soothsayer, is better to use the feminine, which will be "пророчица" [про`рочица].
Ванга [`ванга] - is short for Вангелия.

-> Питанката е за soothsayer и как би се използвала тази дума в частност за Ванга, затова според мен общият превод трябва да е в м.р., ед. ч. и после следват всички обяснения. А докато аз съм подготвяла отговора си, Вие сте добавяли бележки към своя.

The stress in гадателка / пророчица goes to the forth / fifth letter.

предсказАтелка

Explanation:
Захванах дискусия, ама до момента няма принос... Позволявам си да нарека баба Ванга "предсказАтелка", защото знам другите значения. Противно на обществено приетото й наименование като "пророчица", аз предпочитам названието(?!?!?) "предсказАтелка" - защото тя предсказваше на хората бъдещи събития (най-общо казано) на базата на (най-вече) лични преживелици. В никакъв случай не отричам и другите й заслуги, умения, знания, прорицателства и тп.
В'aн-га - initial accent;
"Пред-скa-зА-телка" .

The first one was and still is the most popular "name" for Vanga.

The second term is the newly accepted, modern one

3) my suggestion is the third one as she clearly saw and knew past, current, and future events

agree  Ivan Klyunchev: Да, и аз си мислех за ясновидка, clairvoyant на английски: a person who claims to have a supernatural ability to perceive events in the future or beyond normal sensory contact. Подкрепям ясновидка, но няма такъв отговор, а и се пита за друга дума.
