Tech/Engineering - Mechanics / Mech Engineering
English term or phrase: mekwerk
It seems the word consists of two roots and my wild guess is that "werk" is Middle English for work but it si just beyond me what "mek" might stand for or come from. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance:
ex.
An iron portcullis blocked them from going any farther, a complex MEKWERK device on the wall beside it.

Each door slammed closed, the mekwerk locks thudded home

the great mekwerk gears in the depths churned and rolled.

Explanation:
An iron PORTCULLIS (б.м.) blocked them from going any farther, a complex MEKWERK device . ..."

Godsgrave: Book Two of the Nevernight Chronicle от Jay Kristoff (2017)

М. Мусоргски - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9lrwcJRwa8
ELP - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsPkNUmixMs -
