Критерият натоварване на пасището означава броят или теглото на животните на единица площ, хектар или декар и този брой се определя от количеството тревен фураж, достъпен за животните, т.е. добивът на трева определя натоварването на пасището. За да се трансформира максимум фураж в животинска продукция, трябва да се търси оптимално натоварване на пасището. Ако натоварването е слабо, индивидуалната продукция от животните е максимална, но общата продукция от декар е ниска.
