إغلاق السكوت أو لزوم نتائجه Explanation: acquiescence اقرار سكوت أو تحفظ، قبول ضمني سلبي، رضى تردد أو استنكاف يتخذ قرينة على القبول. وهو غير التصديق أو الاقرار الصريح confirmation الذي ينطوي على القصد والرغبة الواضحة في قبول الشئ أو إبرامه. أما estoppel by acquiescence فتشير إلى اغلاق السكوت أو لزوم نتائجه، وهو ما يكون باعتباره ان السكوت على أمر يتخذ حجة على الساكت أو قرينة على قبوله، وان الشخص المحتج بسكوته قد رأى منه هذا السكوت فاعتمد عليه وبدل خطته أو سبيله بناء عليه ولحقه الضرر محل الادعاء.
