When I was growing up in the Middle East, there was only one source of news in each country: an official, government-controlled entity called "Ministry of Information" or "So and So News Agency" (usually abbreviated). Because of the governmental monopoly on news reporting, there was no competition. You always heard the news from one source, the only source.

In the West, news reporting is competitive. If my television networks frequently breaks news stories before anybody else, more people will watch my network. Advertisers will consequently be willing to pay more money per one minute of ad time. I will, hence, make more money. So it is important to have "scoops" as frequently as possible, and surely feels good to say on air, "you heard it here first":

من هنا أُذيعَ هذا الخبر لأول مرة

You are right. In this sense, "Urge the person you are talking to to credit you as the source for whatever information you gave them." I thought the person who is saying that wants to say, "I'm credible." But I figure it out from what you are saying that the media use it too to say we are the first to report this news.

Typically, "you heard it here first" is something that a news anchor on radio or television would say after the anchor reports a breaking story. The anchor reminds the listeners that the news story broke on their program. By saying that, the anchor claims credit for breaking the story to aggrandize the standing of the program. In that kind of situation, the word "here" means on the program.

to the best of my knowledge, this tradition of claiming credit after breaking a story in these specific words does not exist in Arabic-speaking countries. We have to keep this fact in mind when translating this expression.

In the situation you are translating, the person saying "you heard it here first" sarcastically imitates a news anchor, but without being a news anchor. He is just having a conversation with a friend. So "you heard it here first," if translated literally, would be incomprehensible, because there is no "here." The guy is simply saying, "You heard it from me first."

Please contextualize it for us. The specific meaning depends on who is saying it to whom and why. In what type of material did you see it. Is it in an ad about a product? What else is in the ad? To what does "it" refer?
