play on words (see explanation) Explanation: The original song is called "The 12 DAYS of Christmas." DAY rhymes with NEIGH and appears to be a play on words. NEIGH is the sound that a horse makes. From the dictionary: Neigh: "a characteristic high whinnying sound made by a horse" The original song states: On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: A partridge in a pear tree. In your song, the "horse" theme continues with the gift being a "pony" in a pear tree.
