Dutch term or phrase: ontrupsing
I am translating a series of questions about prehistoric creatures with one correct answer and two wrong answers.
The question is what do we call the process of shedding an old skin and growing a new one. The correct answer is 'moulting' and the incorrect answers are 'metamorphosis' and 'ontrupsing' which I cannot find anywhere. Does it have something to do with a 'rups' (caterpillar) maybe?

Any suggestions?

English translation:worming
Explanation:
"Ontrupsing" is indeed to do with caterpillars. It means "removing caterpillars (when they are pests) from a plant, tree etc. It's used more in Belgium than Holland and I think it is more Flemish than Dutch.
Since the translation does not work all that well in this case, I think you need to be creative. That's why I suggest something like "worming" (removing worms). I understand the answer has to be similar because it is multiple choice.

Sorry for the delay in awarding points - I've had my head down finishing the translation. I wish I could give points all round for joining in the discussion - In the end I used pupation because it was a recognisable word that made a sensible 'wrong answer' in the context. Many thanks to you all.

verpoppen = pupate, cocoon

Explanation:
Waarom is de vertaling van de letterlijke omschrijving niet goed? Ontrupsen is toch verpoppen.

Transmogrification

Explanation:
I think the word has to be "wrong" but sound plausible. Transmutation might be another. You do not know quite what it means but it sounds good. So perhaps a bit of artistic licence is needed and not a direct translation. Not easy.
