Het probleem met die "oliekasten" is dat het informele taal is. In feite zijn die "oliekasten" tandwielkasten (gearboxes/cases) waar olie in zit. En die tandwielen draaien (gedeeltelijk) in die olie.

If you want that new windlass on your Beneteau sail boat to last more than a few seasons then following a few basic maintenance tasks is good insurance.
Always wash the unit down in fresh water to reduce corrosion. Where there is an oil sump, check it for correct level, and also check oil for water contamination.

Marin, does your Lofran have the round sight glass to check the oil level for the winch gears. Your unit is much newer than mine I think, and I wonder how much they have changed the design over the years.
Another example is the oil pan of an engine. The oil is used to lubricate the engine's moving parts and it pools in a reservoir, known as a sump, at the bottom of the engine. Use of a sump requires the engine to be mounted slightly higher to make space for it. Often though, oil in the sump can surge during hard cornering starving the oil pump. For these reasons racing and piston aircraft engines are "dry sumped" using scavenge pumps and a swirl tank to separate oil from air which is also sucked up by the pumps.

Volgens mij is 'oil box', 'oil tank' ongebruikelijk in deze context en zou 'oil sump' moeten worden gebruikt (bij een 'gearbox' heet het een 'sump').
'gearbox oil sump', kan afhankelijk van de context te prefereren zijn boven 'oil sump' zonder meer.
Daarnaast is naar mijn gevoel in deze situatie 'oil sumps of anchor windlasses' te prefereren boven 'anchor windlass oil sumps'
Dat laatste kan ik alleen niet helemaal uitleggen.

Freek's answer needs to be turned around though: 'oil tank gearbox windlass' (unidiomatic) > 'windlass gearbox oil tank' (better English).
If you change mine from: 'anchor winch oil boxes' to 'anchor windlass oil sumps', it rather resembles your '(gearbox) oil sumps of anchor windlasses'.
I now see that the part with the oil is probably an integral part of the winch/windlass. Therefore, omitting the 'gearbox' part probably isn’t such a crime against humanity.

Volgens mij slaat in dit geval gearbox op de tandwielen van het ankermechanisme die door een oliebak lopen, en dus niet op een motor zoals ik eerst dacht, trouwens. Ik weet niet precies hoe de tandwielen bij een (bovendeks) anker lopen, maar hier is het idee toegelicht: "Smering in een gesloten kast kan continu plaatsvinden door er voor te zorgen dat in elk geval een deel van de tandwielen in een oliebad ligt. Also, windlasses are often much smaller than anchor winches, and so the gearbox is part of the thing itself.

Unless you know that the oil is specifically intended for the gearbox of the anchor windlass, I think it would be safer to translate 'ankerlieroliekast' as '(anchor) windlass oil tank', rather than '(anchor) windlass gearbox oil tank'. After all, this is what the Dutch says, not 'ankerliermotoroliekast'.

'Technically speaking, the term "windlass" refers only to horizontal winches. Vertical designs are correctly called capstans. Horizontal windlasses make use of an integral gearbox and motor assembly, all typically located above-deck, with a horizontal shaft through the unit and wheels for chain and/or rope on either side. That is, the gearbox in a 'horizontal windlass' is usually above-deck, and the gearbox in a 'vertical capstan', is below decks.
Jedi heeft een Maxwell 3500 ankerlier. Dat is een forse, verticaal met kettingwiel en kaapstander bovendeks en een gearbox en 1200 Watt 12V motor onderdeks. Toen we 4 jaar geleden aan boord kwamen vonden we al een reserve motor. Na ons hurricane Ivan avontuur in Grenada hebben we de ketting en het kettingwiel vervangen en over het laatste jaar zagen we dat de gearbox een beetje olie lekte langs de pakking. Dat werd steeds meer, vandaar het onderhoud. Ik kwam op het goede idee om een nieuwe gearbox te kopen en de huidige te reviseren en als reserve te houden.
