agree  writeaway: Termium as a ref for Nl-En? As Phil says, easily findable. Lots of this sort of Dutch terminology is bounced off the English original in any case

Explanation:
Type of security paper such as banknotes and other securities and identification documents are printed on to prevent forgery or copying. This term has been a subject of discussion in the English to Russian language pair on Proz.

Security paper needs to be optically dull or dead (have little or no fluorescence) to allow the needed contrast to print with invisible inks and to allow invisible fibres to activate under black light.
This will verify document authenticity. Optically dull paper is a standard item used on all checques without. Optically dead paper is of a higher grade and is more expensive.

Whoops! Just noticed typo. checques should, of course, be cheques. (Checks across the pond).

-> Thanks, Jack. I actually posted at the same time as Henk but thought the other comments about the distinction between "dull" and "dead" might be helpful to the community, so my posting has been repositioned lower down. Appreciate your agreement.

agree  writeaway: Great explanation. Too bad it took more time than a snap answer.
