Dutch term or phrase: randgeblazen
Can randgeblazen mean anything but side-blown in a flute context? I’ve come across loads of sites that say that the Moroccan “nay” is actually an end-blown flute. Could simply be a mistake on the author’s part, but I’m not sure what the Dutch term for end-blown would be. Unless side-blown and end-blown are the same thing??? Can someone please fill this crucial gap in my knowledge ;-)

Thanks, Jack. I checked with the author, pointing out that website research suggested that this kind of flute was end-blown rather than edge-blown (i.e. randgeblazen), but all he said was that "end-blown" was the correct term! Probably just didn't want to admit his mistake...;-)

edge-blown

Explanation:
all flutes are "edge blown" in theory, the fact that the blow hole is on the side or the end is then secondary.
