Commissaris van de Vennootschap

English translation: statutory auditor; independent auditor [appointed by the audit committee]

Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Management / company meeting
Dutch term or phrase: Commissaris van de Vennootschap
I have a report on various company meetings. Some parts of the texts are already in English. Nothing particularly wrong with the English but the report is in the present tense and I would have thought it should be in the past and commissaris van de Vennootschap (commissaire de la Société in French, I supposed) is referred to in the English text as "Commissioner".

Should that not be "company auditor"?

Member of the Supervisory Board of the Company

Explanation:
The job of the Supervisory Board is to supervise the Board of Management. This is quite a distinct role from that of auditor which is purely financial. Commissaris in this context should not be translated as 'Commissioner'.

In a Belgian context, please read the description of Commissaris on the following site:
https://www.ibr-ire.be/nl/het_beroep/de_bedrijfsrevisor/audi...
which gives a fairly full explanation of the role.
The question was in the Dutch to English language pair and not the Flemish to English language pair. Although there is often not a great deal of difference, here is an instance where there may very well be! Please do the research and form your own conclusions.

agree  Kitty Brussaard: I have a feeling these reports are from a Belgian company and - given the reference to Ernst & Young (see D-box) - this is actually about a commissaris-(bedrijfs)revisor rather than a supervisory board member.

Reference: Benoeming bedrijfsrevisor als commissaris (BE)

Reference information:
