Companies in the Netherlands can have two names by law – a statutory name (statutaire naam) and a trading name (handelsnaam).

The statutory name is the official name shown in the articles of association.

The trading name can be used for publicity, websites, headed paper, etc.

'Handelsonderneming' provides more information about the type of company. Here it denotes that the company is a trading company (as opposed to a manufacturing company, for instance)

As Textpertise pointed out, there is no definite article so 'handelsonderneming' is not being used to complement the company name and it is actually part of the company's statutory name.
