I mean 'science' without common sense leads nowhere.

It is true, not every person has common sense, some not even a grain of it, or a linguistic instinct.

However, what would happen if such a person attempted to apply 'science'?


I admit, though, lockers confront us with an immensely complex phenomenon.

It's a tricky one indeed; I've never really discussed or studied locker design in great depth so I haven't got a clue if it's idiomatic or not :-)

it seems it can be used at least:

"body" is the first thing I thought of

I wonder if "shell" makes any sense in this context?

GWIT has:
rompbeplating [1] = shell plating
rompbeplating [2] = body plating

also found:

"romp = #6 (van een brandkast) de omgaande wand" (in my Van Dale Groot woordenboek van de Nederlandse taal)

which sort of makes me wonder if "walls" might work here
