Explanation:
The origin of the word is french: apéro, which is usually a drink before dinner, but can also be a little snack.

It's more a Flemish word than Dutch. Kip apero would be any chicken dish that functions as an appetiser snack, so not necessarily drumsticks.
For example these apero brochette kip: http://www.dekleinebassin.be/NL/bbqmenus.html.

I would rather go for chicken snack, or appetiser in that context.

Ik heb de indruk dat in België ´apero´ wordt gebruikt voor borrelhapje/aperitief of ook wel voorgerechtje. Zouden het kleine ´kiphapjes´ kunnen zijn, die gemakkelijk als borrelhapje gegeten kunnen worden? Dus drumsticks, maar ook andere griezelig uitziende kipvarianten?

Reference information:
Drankje of hapje om de eetlust op te wekken, dus technisch geen voorgerecht (= first course). In de praktijk meestal overlap, blijkt alleen maar duidelijk uit de stijl van het restaurant en het prijskaartje.
