Iedereen hartelijk dank voor de moeite en het helpen. De klant is uiteindelijk met een ander woord gekomen. Even voor de mensen die op Kudoz een geschikte vertaling zoeken: het antwoord van Barend (position control signal/continuous position control) is uitstekend in een railway context. Voor een algemenere betekenis is het antwoord van Michael prima (continuous control).

Hallo Barend, nee, niet helemaal. Dat komt uit een referentie die Michael had gepost. Volgens het antwoord van de klant (dat alleen een uitleg betrof) wordt het ook gebruikt voor de sturing van componenten anders dan schakelaars. De vertaling is niet gerelateerd aan treinen o.i.d.

I bought it when I was working on some rail stuff years ago but haven't used it for yonks so can't really comment. Getting on a bit now - I have the 1988 paper edition and a 2001 electronic edition. Don't know if it's been updated since. Its credentials are impeccable, though, as it's compiled by the Union internationale des chemins de fer (UIC). However, I do often find the same translations on IATE (with this as source).

Thanks for your input, Barend. However, in this case it does not only apply to position control (ik weet trouwens niet waarom ik niet gewoon in het Nederlands antwoord, sorry). So at this point I am leaning towards "continuous control" without mentioning position.

dit is waarschijnlijk helemaal niet wat je zoekt maar gewoon voor het idee.

in deze tekst staat een beschrijving van 'integrated position control'

this component allows continuous adjustment between to end positions and maintain any position within the operating range.
The engine controller transmits the desired position via a PWM signal to the actuator. The signal is then converted by the integrated electronics to the corresponding angle and the H-bridge drives the output shaft to the respective angle. The actual position is fed back by the position sensor (both none-contact or potentiometer).

I have no idea whether this is official/accepted.

I suspect that it might be in RailLexic dictionary (http://www.uic.org/spip.php?article786), but I have never done enough railway-related jobs to justify buying it. In any case, it's not in the Groot Woordenboek Industrie & Techniek (GWIT) or Onroerend Goed Lexicon.
