(concave) depressions Explanation: The interior glass has concave depressions. Ik kan het niet vinden mbt beschrijving van de vigreux kolom maar wel in andere contexten (ref google). Bij indentations denk ik meer aan inkepingen. Vases (2), horn, ... slip-cast, ovoid shape with small mouth and everted rim, concave depressions on two ... http://www.dhub.org/object/119170 Some glass slides are available that contain small, concave depressions for holding tissue ... hollow indentations Explanation: Lijkt me in deze context een geschikte vertaling. 'Unusually for a glassblower, Vigreux began to publish regularly in the chemical literature. In 1904, he described a beautiful and revolutionary reflux condenser (right) consisting of a water-jacketed tube, its inner surface studded at regular intervals with sets of 'plates and crowns', pairs of four hollow indentations pointing towards the centre and downwards. http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/Issues/2008/April/Vigreuxs... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2009-07-12 13:44:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In de context van een Vigreux kolom is 'indentations' toch de meest gebruikelijke term: 'A Vigreux condenser is a modification of the air condenser. It is usually used as a fractionating column for fractional distillations. Unlike straight-walled columns, a Vigreux column has a series of downward-pointing indentations on the inside wall which serve to dramatically increase the surface area without increasing the length of the condenser. Because of their added complexity, Vigreux columns also tend to be considerably more expensive than traditional straight-walled designs., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condenser_(laboratory) 'Distillation head which uses Vigreux indentation for increased surface area within the vapor path.' http://quarkglass.thomasnet.com/viewitems/vigreux-distillati... 'There are several types of fractionating column but the most common is the Vigreux column (1) which has indentations designed to force condensing liquid into the rising vapour. This is necessary to achieve the equilibrium needed for efficient fractionation. The Vigreux column is often incorporated into a still head (2). Alternative columns are packed with glass beads (3) or open columns (4).' http://www.rsc-teacher-fellows.net/apparatus/FractionatingCo... |
