container plants

Explanation:
Lots of different plants can be used : hardy perennials, trees, shrubs that are mostly trouble-free of which some have a certain tropical look. Furthermore there is the category of constantly expanding subtropicals that are hardy enough to withstand not too harsh winters, if need be with some protection. Container plants also fall into the previous category, but include those plants that cannot cope with only a few degrees of frost or longterm cold and wet periods. They have to be kept in a bright, frost-free location during the coldest months. Tropical plants are hardier to introduce into the garden, because they require warm nights besides warm daytime temperatures, which are not that common here during our relatively short growing season.

Unfortunately, with Canada\'s climate, container plants will not survive our cold winters. Your options for the winter are to bring the plants inside, transplant them into the garden (or sink the whole pot into the soil), or let them go and replant next year. (Remember clay pots will crack if left outside during freezing weather).
