elutriable Explanation: afslibbaar = het gehalte aan deeltjes met een middellijn < 0.016 mm http://tinyurl.com/q3xrnct 1. To purify, separate, or remove (ore, for example) by washing, decanting, and settling. 2. To wash away the lighter or finer particles of (soil, for example). http://www.thefreedictionary.com/elutriate elutriate - to separate by washing into finer portions http://phrontistery.info/e.html elutriate - elutreren, afslibben, uitwassen van Dale There is, in the Vijfheerenlanden (Five Masters' Country) in the Netherlands, a real connection between certain soil units and their grassland vegetation, classified according to water-supply indicators. This is due to the fact that during draining, after taking into cultivation, the bog profiles have undergone a heavier shrinking than clay or alluvial soils. This is why the surface of the latter types is now higher above ground-water table than that of the boggy profiles. The thickness of horizons of either type was codeterminant for the degree of shrinking, so the soil units on this basin-clay layers (Beckentonschichten) above bog have now the highest groundwater level. Besides, in soil units situated for the larger part above groundwater table, the percentage of elutriable (abschlammbaren) particles plays a part. This is why the driest grassland types are found on elevated sandy alluvial soils, (Flussbettloden). The fact that the grassland on the clay-above-bog soils is wetter than that of little more elevated thick basin clay soils, is probably due partly to the high water absorption capacity of bog. As a result, pleistocenic and holocenic soil profiles grown with grassland intensely manured and pastured, show a distinct connection between genetically and morphologically determinatable soil units and the weight percent share of water retaining power indicators in their vegetation. Heavy interferences with drainage may cross this connection. http://eurekamag.com/research/024/384/connection-grassland-v... Soil washing uses separation technologies form the mining industry, whereby the contaminated soil is separated into its different fractions. The pollution is diverted to the process water or to the elutriable fine fraction that is then processed after drainage on a waste dump site. The large fraction, namely washed sand and debris, can be reused as a secondary raw material in civil engineering projects. Soil washing uses separation technologies based on particle size, settling velocity, specific gravity and other physical and chemical properties. http://www.sitaremediation.be/EN/solutions-4.php -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2013-09-27 01:36:23 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- slibben = de fijnere of lichtere deeltjes van een korrelige stof van de grovere of zwaardere scheiden, door haar met water te vermengen en dit door een stel zeven te laten afvloeien, ofwel de deeltjes van een massa scheiden door gebruik te maken van verschil in s.g. of in bezinkingssnelheid voorbeeld: zand moet geslibd worden om daaruit klei, humus enz. te verwijderen van Dale Woordsoort: ww.(trans.,zw.)
