According to letter / As per letter

Explanation:
مکتوب is originally Arabic, which literally means "written"; I translate it as "letter".

For "document" we use the term سند or اسناد for plural.

The above applies to both Dari and Pashto correspondence in Afghanistan.

According to document 440, dated.... instead I would suggest: According to letter 440, dated... or as per letter 440, dated....

Example sentence(s):
  • According to document 440, dated.....

disagree  Naweed Miakhel: Dear Wali Jan, I completely disagree with this. In Afghanistan مکتوب is the official document and letter is something you write as unofficial. So to my experience here in Afghanistan word مکتوب used and translated into English as document. Not letter نامه

  -> Dear brother, letter is نامه not مکتوب. And if you are using it official never tell نامه for official documents. It is always told as مکتوب. Please remember that there is difference between official and unofficial here. So مکتوب is document not letter.
