Danish term or phrase: brød
"Et dagsmøde på Hotel XXXX inkluderer formiddagskaffe/the med friskbagt brød."

Am proof reading something which translates 'brød' in the above context as 'bread'. Is this correct? In Swedish I would interpret this as meaning hot drinks and pastries - is it traditionally Danish to eat lots of bread with coffee?

rolls

Explanation:
I would suggest 'rolls' as it's very common for the Danes serve 'rundstykker', i.e. (breakfast) rolls during coffee break at meetings/conferences. Rolls can also refer to cinnamon rolls/buns etc.

Cake and/or biscuits

Explanation:
Here it is almost certainly ´blød brød´, or cake.

As here, in sense 1.b ´enhver form for bagværk, især kager´
http://ordnet.dk/ddo/ordbog?query=brød

May be traditional Danish pastries (wienerbrød) or very often a kringle type - a fairly plain yeast dough rolled out and filled with a richer filing - fruit, raisins, marzipan, ´remonce´, etc.

Or ´kaffebrød´ - crisp rusk-type biscuits, which actually are baked twice! (bis cuit in French means twice baked).

My Mother-in-law always had some really delicious ones in the biscuit tin, with cardamom...

Sorry, I got carried away! This is for EFTERMIDDAGSkaffe.

Formiddagskaffe would often include wienerbrød, though - try googling wienerbrød + formidagskaffe!!

Notes to answerer
Asker: Jag är redan hungrig! På svenska har vi ju kaffebröd med, och kan dessutom beställa 'kaffe med bröd' (diverse kakor) - det var ju därför jag undrade...

bread or cake

Explanation:
It could be either. Your gut feeling that it could be interpreted as 'Danish pastries' is right. 'Brød' is often used as short for 'wienerbrød'. 'Kaffe og brød' would often mean 'coffee and cake', and if this had been an afternoon snack, that would be the most obvious answer.
However, as it is a mid-morning snack, it could equally well be bread and butter, cheese, and a selection of sliced meats. AND there might be Danish pastries as well. :-)
