My sense of "stille op til" is that there is consent involved, i.e. that the interviewee is aware that the interview will be confrontational and agrees to it, and "subjected to" doesn't get that across.
For example, at
http://www.journalisten.dk/tennisdarling-forlanger-penge-int... ("Caroline Wozniacki gerne stiller op til interviews") it is clear that Caroline Wosniacki is willing to be interviewed, for the right price. Most of the hits I get on google are to do with people who "stiller op til valg" (stand for election) which is a bit different, but there is the same sense here of freewill.
