putting on a bold face / keeping up a facade Explanation: Gyldendal suggests´putting a bold face on it´ My thought was ´keeping up a facade´ It means pretending that everything is fine while it is not, or while pulling off some underhand scheme that others do not discover until it is too late. (´slet spil´ is literally something deceitful or malicious.) |

the best of a bad job Explanation: "... he had made the best of a bad job for 15 years." Also from Gyldendals Røde under "gøre gode miner til slet spil" but Ordbogen over Faste Vendinger makes "gøre" og "holde" synonymous in this expression (see reference).
