Notes to answerer
Asker: I started with this very answer, based on common sense. But if I were reading a text such as this, with a title without context, signed illustration tells me nothing. Apparently it means "to which a signature was attached by the author". Maybe my being a blond American is a factor here, but it doesn't convey meaning to me. Perhaps a translator's note would be appropriate. Nevertheless, right on Igor!

Asker: and autographed seems more understandable, but not in the context of the centuries in question!!!
