An offtake is an agreement signed between a mining company and, typically, a smelter group, whereby the mining company will provide a set amount of concentrate for delivery to the smelter. The smelter charges a processing fee for that concentrate. Most of the big, undeveloped mines are likely to produce a copper concentrate.

Asker: The trouble is the term dodávka comes up too often for me to use this translation. Quick off the mark you are, though. Thanks

Asker: Well, demand... In the contract there is a sentence "penalizace při nedodávce a neodběru" from the point of view of the buyer and seller... I reserve the right to see other suggestions. Thanks

Explanation:
In light of this: '"penalizace při nedodávce a neodběru" from the point of view of the buyer and seller... '
non-delivery and non-recepit OR failure to deliver and refusal to receive
alternatively, you could use "non-acceptance" or simply "refusal"

Asker: In the end I decided to use (keep) acceptance and non-acceptance which I had already been usin, although the suggestion of "offtake" seems to be the most precise - I just can't bring myself to use that word. I'm too conservative: maybe after I have seen it in frequent use for about 5 years I might begin using it myself. Sorry Hannah.

Explanation:
"The retailer shall inform the consumer of a limited supply of the goods."

Sounds like another example where the Czech language likes to complicate things unnecessarily. How can expedice be limited? The roads were blocked that day? The retailer is simply out of stock - nothing more complicated than that.

Asker: Thanks for this, but since this is the first time I have used this channel and I felt the space for outlining my request for help was limited, I didn't explain that the goods are raw materials from a mine. So I think your suggestion is not appropriate. Also there is also a case in the contract of neodběr (sort of refusal - see above - Prudký/Vančura)

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hmm. I don't like this term as an English speaker, on the other hand I googled it and it seems to be a term used - I hadn't heard it myself. I might well choose your answer. Thanks a lot. Quick on the draw.

Asker: On the other hand you are an English speaker too, aren't you?

Asker: although aesthetically I dislike the term, I think (and have vygoogled - googled out(!?)) it is the most precise suggestion. Thanks. Oh, and I only later noticed that you are a native Czech speaker - going by the spelling of youur name I thought you were native a Anglophone

Asker: i tried to select this as most helpful, but have been urged by proZ to wait until 24 hrs is up...

Asker: I don't know if you can see what I have written elsewhere to other answerers, but in the end I wasn't able to bring myself to use this new-fangled expression, despite the fact that it seems to hit the nail right on the head. Also, judging from those links you very helpfully included, it seems to be a word used in Africa, India etc., but I'm not so sure about Britain. What about America?
