plate
Explanation:
According to Electrolux. They offer a tál on their ThermaLine 800 gas - electric range, on the English tech sheet they use the term plate.
My internet has been crashing a lot whenever I use google ... like three times in the past half hour ... so try to google tál + electrolux for the Czech tech sheet and then ThermaLine 800 gas electric to get the English tech sheet, then you can compare from there.
In the meantime I will get rid of my google toolbar.

Now that Explorer is not crashing every five minutes:
Electrolux features two "tál" as accessories on thís gas-top range. In English one tál is called a "simmering plate" and the other is a "solid top plate". Both in Czech are litinový tál, with the latter being "na výkonné hořáky".

A simmering plate the hotplate on a Swedish Aga stove that cooks at a lower temperature, good for sauces but not good for boiling spaghetti. This may be too specific for your needs, so I would suggest the second option - a solid top plate - or just simply plate.

Remember that it is a burner is something else.

Anyway, for the Electrolux tech sheet in English see http://professional.electrolux.com/simpleretriever/WF_Retrie...
In Czech it is here: http://professional.electrolux.com/simpleretriever/WF_Retrie...

Sarka, based on your explanation I think there are two options here -- hotplate or just plate.

hearth plate

Explanation:
Not sure if this fits - the Sarka's definition is rather vague...

hob

Explanation:
If it is ceramic cooker, then it is a "hob", otherwise, it is a "ring".

If it is an Aga, then the metal plates used for cooking are called "hotplates".

neutral  Martin Janda: AFAIK, this is a metal plate on the top of old stoves burning wood. Hob is not the thing then - does the ring fit the definition?

-> From the description Sarka gave, it could be an Aga stove, in which case it is called a "hotplate".

agree  Elizabeth Spacilova: with your note above -- a hotplate.
