Czech term or phrase: Provozovny k předmětu podnikáni číslo
I'm post-editing a machine translation of business documents (for my sins, which I hope I enjoyed at the time) and this phrase came up. Clear, I thought except a few lines further down 'Identifikační číslo provozovny' pops up.

Is the first 'number of business premises' (ie how many sites the business has)? Any suggestions gratefully received.

English translation:Premises where activity/subject of business XXX is performed
Explanation:
This is very red tape, bear with me...

Predmet podnikani is what a business does, i.e. wholesale of goods etc. Each company/Ltd. must register different activities it plans to do and they are defined in a list, i.e. 001 wholesale of goods, 002 real estate agency etc. (making those up, but you get the gist)... It's normally somewhat clumsily translated as subject of business ...

A business also registers its provozovna (sales premises, or manufacturing facility or whatever a place outside of the company's seat where some of its activities are performed)... and Provozovny k predmetu podnikani cislo XX means "Premises where a particular subject of business/activity (i.e. 001 in the example above) the company has registered takes place.."

The translation sounds as bad as the original does, I'm affraid, maybe you can come up with something better

I think this is closest to what I need, but I'm splitting the points as Stuart's answer was also helpful. Many thanks to both of you!

Establishments used to carry on business number (1, 2, 3…)

Explanation:
followed by a list of establishments under each area of business.

The entity engages in several types of business, and not each establishment carries on (carries on = EUspeak) all the types of business, so it has to group the establishments by area of business (1. Hospitality… 2. Manufacture…)

See, for example, this extract from the Trade Register:
