iThere are several english proverbs I found, so here they are:

even this one: Don't bite the hand that feeds you

or: Empty vessels make the most noise

that one is much closer... sure it's not easy with sayings and similar, especially when they are sort of "folkloristic" as the one with the gipsy woman:))

That makes more sense in my context. Perhaps "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar" is closer. Of course, it's possible that no equivalent exists.

never heard the saying, but somehow feel that your suggestion is not exactly in the right direction... the meaning is i'd say that anger, spite or whatever doesn't pay... a gipsy woman needs to be sweet to get her "bags full" ... to get something from people either by begging, fortune telling or whatever:))... unfortunately i can't help with an english idiom
