Tsarist Russia also stretched out its hand towards Tian Shan's North Route, in 1666 sending a "Diplomatic Mission" to the Jungarian tribe, going to the local leader with gifts from the Tsar, and luring him to come over and pledge allegiance to Russia. In 1671, Galdan set himself up as Khan of Jungaria, and with the support of Tsarist Russia, annexed all the tribes of Beijiang, and then occupied the Uygur regions of Nanjiang. In 1688, Galdan attacked the Khalka Mongols in the east, forcing several hundreds of thousands of people from the Khalka tribe south, to be resettled by the Qing Government in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia. In June 1690, Galdan, in the name of pursuing the Khalkas, came and raided Wuzhumuqin. The front troops penetrated as far as present-day Ulan Bator, south of the Wuda League's Keshenketeng Banner . Later, Galdan also shamelessly indicated to the Russian envoy that he was willing to help them to recapture Albazin.

上文: In order to crush the common enemy of the people of all the nationalities of the North-West, the treasonous secessionist Galdan, Kangxi led armies out on campaigns three times, in 1690, 1696 and 1697, and gained major victories in battle at Ulan Bator and Zhaomoduo.
下文: Galdan had no way out. In March 1697, besieged by Qing troops, he took poison and killed himself. From then on, the Khalka tribe was able to return to their former grazing lands north of the desert.
