La Societat Catalana de Ciències Físiques, Químiques i Matemàtiques responia a la confluència de diverses iniciatives que Eduard Fontserè havia reeixit a unificar i, al marge dels científics de les especialitats que indicava el nom de la societat, aportava la novetat d’incorporar els tècnics als cercles acadèmics de l’entorn de l’IEC.

My draft (can't get my head round this so appreciate input):

The Societat etc responded to several related initiatives by Eduard Fontserè, that ultimately resulted in bringing technical experts into the academic circles of the IEC. The novelty of this initiative was that these technical experts did not necessarily reflect the disciplines indicated by the name of the society.

My understanding is based largely on the distinction that in Spain is made between "tecnicos" and academics.

The Societat etc responded to several initiatives Eduard Fontserè had succeeded in bringing together and took the novel step of bringing technical experts into the academic circles of the IEC. These technical experts joined the scientists working in the disciplines indicated in the name of the society.


that ultimately resulted in The novelty of this initiative was that these technical experts did not necessarily reflect the disciplines indicated by the name of the society.
