poached egg Explanation: I asked a few Catalans who'd never heard that in Catalan but who all agreed it had to be "poached eggs". I also found this menu: http://www.hotelmasroig.com/lacarta/estiu_cat_eng.pdf -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2009-06-03 16:40:58 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "Poached" is an anglicized French word, so Spanish and Catalan speakers are certainly entitled to do the same. ;) "Etymology: Middle English pocchen, from Middle French pocher, from Old French poché poached, literally, bagged, from poche bag, pocket -- more at POUCH Date: 15th century : to cook in simmering liquid (Merriam-Webster)" |
