Dome drum; the base of the dome; dome supports
Explanation:
"Wall construction is traditional: stone and brick bound by lime mortar. Polished dolomitite [има възможност това да предизвика объркване, тъй като често погрешно класифицират подобни плочи като травертин (travertine) или варовик (limestone)] slabs stand out on the outside, while door and window frames and the squat columns of the dome drum are of white limestone."

Example sentence(s):
  • Brunelleschi's solutions were ingenious and unprecedented: the distinctive octagonal design of the double-walled dome, resting on a drum and not on the roof itself, allowed for the entire dome to be built without the need for scaffolding from the ground,
  • In one, the dome starts directly from the top of the circle formed by the pendentives; in the other, a cylindrical wall or "drum" intervenes between the pendentives and thedome, thus raising the latter considerably.

tambour

Explanation:
The French for "drum", and I have seen it used in architectural texts with reference to the straight part below the dome.

The same source also gives simply "drum" as an equivalent (Drum = "A vertical wall supporting a dome or a cupola".)
