(see explanation) Explanation: Hi Firdous, I have many Arabic friends & acquaintances but none of them have this name. On the other hand, I also have quite a number of Somalian friends who are Muslim, and three of them (all female) are called Ayaan. It seems that this name is more common among the Somalis (majority of whom are Muslim) than the Arabs. I once asked Ayaan about the meaning of her name & she answered "something bright, or brightness"-- so that must be what it means in Somali. If you google something like "meaning of Ayaan in Arabic", you will find, however, that in Arabic it is a male name meaning "gift of God". I hope this helps. |
