In view of your clarification, skip (as 'anashkaloj' rather than 'kaloj') is the right word. And yes, this technique is used quite a bit among Albanians.

I got the explanation. "Kaloj" is translated from a Swedish word that could mean "skip". The context: after starting in first gear, the driver can save fuel by skipping the second, changing directly to the third. The same result can be obtained by skipping the third, going from the second to the fourth. -- I wonder if this method is used in Kosova or Albania, and I wonder if "kaloj" is the correct word.

I am a native Albanian speaker and I have never heard or read anywhere 'kaloj marshet'. The only acceptable form is the one I provided earlier.
A native speaker would say 'nderroj marshin' or 'marrshin' in colloquial.
Even my Kosovar friend said that 'nderroj marshin' was unknown to her. She had never heard this expression and asked for more context. I wonder how a sentence having 'kaloj marshet' would sound like! Because I have never come across any.

Sorry, I felt to explain. I have heard, kaloj marshet, ndroj marshet, leviz marshet in the source language. They all mean the same thing.

As I explained previously, if you would use 'kaloj' with 'marsh' it should take the form of 'kaloj ne x marsh' or 'kaloj nga marshi i dyte ne te tretin'. Simply 'kaloj marshet' is not correct. In this case, you would say 'nderroj marshet'.
"Kaloj ne te parin/dytin/tretin" is the colloquial form.
But, again, I think that the author meant 'speed limit' rather than shifting gears because merely shifting gears is not necessarily related to endangering the road safety.

I guess the speaker (assuming this was an interview) meant 'speed' rather than 'gear(-box).
The quotation you got from FESH, at least that part, does not seem to be related to 'kaloj' in the sense of 'shifting gears'.

E bëj diçka që të lëvizë a të shkojë diku ose që të përshkojë një gjë. Kaloj dorën mbi flokë. Kaloj perin në gjilpërë. Kaloj një kafshatë (një aspirinë) e kapërdij, e kapërcej, e përcjell. -- Also, I didn't say that the answer has to be correct, so my guess (shifting gears) could be the best translation. However, "exceeding the speed limit" might be what the author means. -- No more context.

"Kaloj marshin" is wrong. The correct expression is "ndërroj marshin". If, however, you mean "switch to, say, the second gear" then "kaloj në marshin e dytë". The word "marsh" in this context cannot stay on its own, therefore more context had to be provided.

T'i kalosh marshet means ndërroj marshet. Shift the gear is very common in speech and also a good understandable expression in text.

It is highly possible that he meant 'nderroj'. There is no way 'kaloj' makes sense but this is what Kosovars usually like to do with language: use it inappropriately.
I would go with 'change/shift gears', while the context is still unclear.

Would you say that it is a good expression in text, or just more ore less common in speech? Google doesn't have it, "ndërrosh marshet" gives a few hits in formal writing.
