PARAGRAPHE / Most CF patients have the F508del variant of CFTR, so it is not surprising that a great deal of attention has been focused on the properties of this protein. ***So-called protein-mobilising drugs that mimic the beneficial effects of growth in the cold are being actively sought.*** Such a drug may not be sufficient, however, because when F508del protein does reach the cell surface in patients it is less functional than normal CFTR. We may need to find F508del activity-enhancing drugs as well.
