Drinking hall es lo que literalmente parece ser - un lugar donde se dispensa alcohol. A menudo hace referencia al lugar donde se sirve alcohol dentro de otros locales en cuyas partes restantes no se sirve. Es un concepto extraño en España, donde se sirve alcohol en casi cualquier lugar.

Así, es difícil encontrar un equivalente para España. Por emparejar el término con "tabernas", se podría utilizar "bares", pero el concepto de un bar con bolera sería extraño en España.

Si quieres utilizar un registro informal, yo diría "abrevaderos", como referencia más amplia y figurada a lugares que sirvan alcohol. Hay múltiples referencias, como verás a continuación, y creo que puede servir, repito, si el sentido figurado e informal casa con el contexto.

Explanation:
If the text refers to the north of Spain, again they are talking about "petanca", which is the name for traditional bowling. Bowling has never been played here as something traditional!!
And about the drinking halls, a common name for it in Northern Spain would be tascas, although it sounds rather regional,so I would use tabernas.

I forgot, I don´t think it means it was played inside, either, but that it was the favourite for the people who wwent there.
