neutral  David Vaughn: I don't disagree that this would be normal catalog description. But it seems to me that "triptych" is a special case, especially when it is not a catalog, and so we can't compare the description with others. "In 15 parts" makes a 3-part work sound broken.

  -> Normally I would agree with you, but this is the specific terminology used (at least in my experience) in the art world. The same thing goes for multiples, for ex. a Calder sculpture could be designated as "mobile in 4 parts" or whatever. :)
