Explanation:
Adverts can stereotype women by showing them to be doing a certain thing, for example if women are always shown as housewives that is one stereotype. This may give children the idea that all women are/should be housewives, which most people would argue is the wrong idea.

Two different ideas


Explanation:
I think Adda brought up two different ideas, may not differentiate the two -- of course that's why he is asking.

The study claims that British advertising stereotypes women.
We tried not to give the children sexually stereotyped toys.

The former suggests sex stereotype, the latter gender streotype (as Rita commented).
I believe these are two different matters if not very apart from each other. In the former I suspect the British ad presenting woman as a sex object by stressing her "sexuality" (so the study have taken offense to it).
The latter -- a gender stereotype in toy like "dolls for girls, guns for boys" as one answerer pointed out. So in case of toy, I believe gender streotype is better word for this.
