National Identity Document number Explanation: I suppose this is for Argentina because DNI is a document we have in Argentina and it stands for Documento Nacional de Identidad. This is the way we translate it in order to differenciate it from the Cédula de Identidad (Identity Card). The difference is that the DNI is issued by the Civil Registry and the CI by the Police. I hope it helps. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs 17 mins (2004-10-17 20:03:34 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Both documents are used to identify yourself, but to vote, for example, you must use the DNI; you can\'t use the cédula. The DNI is mandatory, but there are many people who don\'t have a cédula. The DNI is renewed when children are 8 years old and also when they are 16. After that, you keep the same one the rest of your life (unless you lose it). |
