English term or phrase: the sense of this sentence
The ideology of mother love remains a great impediment to the recognition of child endangerment at the hands of the few extremely disturbed women who also happen to be mothers.

Could the author make mistake and use "ideology" instead of "idealization"?

Selected answer:ideology in the sense of philosophy, theory
Explanation:
I think ideology is fine in this context - the idea/belief that all mothers love their children blinds people to the few instances of women who don't. I do agree that idealiziation would make a sensible sentence too, but it's meaning would be slightly different.

Yes - idealization

Explanation:
I'm pretty sure you're correct about the meaning - it's certainly an unusual use of the word "ideology".

ideology conveys the sense of widely shared value yet you are right, idealization would be great

Explanation:
in the sentence, idealization of the mother's role is what prevents many people to face the idea of bad mothers

it is possible that both "ideology" and "idealization" fit here

Explanation:
Given the absence of the full context, I would venture to say that both words might be appropriate here. 1)The term "ideology" when treated as a set of ideas that form the notion of "mother love" connotes that the "mother love" is unquestionable, and, thus, fits the meaning of the sentences; 2) "Idealization" suggests that the notion "mother love" has been the notion of the unquestionable love, and, thus, fits the sentence, too. Ultimately, the words "ideology of mother love" already incorporate the "idealization" phenomenon in it. In other words, the word "ideology" contains the connotation of a more specific meaning, that is, "idealization." IMHO, of course:)

I meant, the combination of words \"ideology of mother love,\" contains \"idealization\" in it.

ideology: in this case misconception

Explanation:
It's unusual seeing the word used like this, but what he or she wants to say is different from idealization, I believe.
This is from an excerpt from a book by a woman who reports her experience being the child of a mother with MBP:
They also depend quite strongly on our society's mistaken belief that mother-love and self-less caregiving is a part of a woman's biological make-up. That a woman's love for her children is an indisputable fact of life, either from the moment of conception or from the moment the child is born and presented to her.
