Definition: Same-Store Sales are sales dollars generated only by those stores that have been open more than a year and have historical data to compare this year\'s sales to the same time-frame last year.

General Use: By measuring the sales increase or decrease in the stores that have a history (open a year or more) the industry can get a better feel for how it is really performing, because this measure -- Same-Store Sales -- takes store closings and chain expansions out of the mix.

please note: THE TERM IN ENGLISH IS WEIRD TOO. Unless you know the definition..,..same store sales is confusing....and it is the SAME AS comp sales..or comparable sales and in Portuguese, that is the term as my first PROOF shows. They use \'\'mesmas\" in quotation marks and then use the term comparaveis in the same sentence. This indicates that it is SYNONYMOUS and therefore CORRECT.

neutral  Henrique Serra: "vendas das lojas comparáveis" could be misleading because stores of different chains could be compared, which is not the case here; weird as it may sound, "conceito de mesmas lojas" is a known expression in Brazilian marketing.

  -> wrong: in English and in the sites I give...the term is COMP STORES. You need to check the English for same store sales which is the same as comparable or comp store sales. Sorry Henrique...
