I want to say that the County President put an end to the corruption in the Mayor's office. I'd like to sum up that corruption in the word travesty. Ex. .... "until the County Pres. put an end to the travesty. "Is travesty too associated with things of a comical, farcical nature? Thanks
Marie P.

it's definitely used with that meaning

Explanation:
The term is definitely used the way in the way you'd like, though I imagine the text already mentions the term corruption before you will use the term "travesty". See:

Caution

Explanation:
Normally, a travesty must be a travesty *of* something. It doesn't have to be farcical or comical, but it is, as another answerer has suggested, a "grotesque imitation" or making a mockery of something. So we can have a "travesty of justice" (say where a court goes through the motions of hearing and deliberating on a case but delivers an arbitrary and unjust verdict), etc.

agree  Richard Benham: These are OK, but the first are of course not English. There is a sense in English too almost of desecration, which is more or less absent in your suggested French translations.
