The "establishment"'s favo(u)red candidate Explanation: In times of yore, leaders were anointed with oil (so the Bible tells us) before their time came to be chosen as leader. After anointment, however, this was in those days a foregone conclusion. Nowadays, this is a slightly flippant reference to a candidate whom the establishment (those who wield the real power in the world) expects to represent their interests. |
