Artículo 222.- Facultad de denunciar. Toda persona que tenga noticia de un delito de acción pública podrá denunciarlo verbalmente o por escrito ante el Ministerio Público o la Policía Nacional. El denunciante tendrá derecho a que se le extienda copia de la denuncia.

Si se trata de delito que dependa de instancia particular, recibida la denuncia, la Policía Nacional deberá de oficio, según proceda, interrumpir la comisión del delito, prestar auxilio a la víctima, realizar actos urgentes de investigación o aprehender **en caso de flagrancia**. Todo sin detrimento de la facultad de la víctima de formalizar su denuncia ante el Ministerio Público en los delitos de acción pública a instancia particular

neutral  philgoddard: Red handed is way too colloquial, and in flagrante usually refers to sexual misconduct.
