As I understand it, this is referring to urine collected from a patient urinating normally as opposed to a catheterized patient. But is there a specific term for this in English?

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

neutral  Michael Barnett: Although this is technically correct, it is not idiomatic. In 40 years as a physician I have never heard anyone call it "micturated urine". Note that French technical/professional language is more elitist than in English.

disagree  Michael Barnett: A urine sample is not necessarily mid-stream.//Wrong again. MSU is only required for culture. In family practice in Canada I would estimate that a culture is needed <1% of all urine samples.

Maybe you should paraphrase and say ¨urine that has been collected into a sterile container". I am not aware of a specific translation for this term. Or maybe "clean catch urine sample". I have seen that for this procedure this is one of the ways to collect urine. Hope it helps

agree  Michael Barnett: Voided urine. Although the term "void" literally means to empty the bladder, in general medical usage, the term is used for any naturally produced urine sample, whether or not the bladder is emptied. In fact a mid-stream urine is completed before emptying
