agree  Minoru Kuwahara: the first word coming to my mind would be 気持ちが落ち着く among other possible expressions. i would assume a little different mentality from 心が和む, for instance, though the latter would not be deviated from the speaker's perception. -

Calming はcalmの動名詞です。そしてcalmは自動詞でも他動詞でもありますが、この場合は自動詞でしょう。だから日本語のほうも「心が静まる」というふうにいえばいいでしょう。ただし「静まる思いがする」といったほうが自然です。
ところで例文の英語はずいぶんぶきっちょな英語ですね。でも想像を働かせてあなたのいいたいことを考えるのですが、水槽などで泳いでいる熱帯魚をみていっているのでしょうね。誰も死んだ魚を見て心が静まるひとはいないでしょうね。
