Tech/Engineering - Electronics / Elect Eng / port radar installation
French term or phrase: l'aérien
NB This has nothing to do with air transport. The radar is installed in a port and targets sea vessels.
The contract is for replacing old radar equipment.
I've provisionally used "aerial part".

l'aérien (d'une installation de radar)
(radar) superstructure

Explanation:
Superstructure
The superstructure is the portion of a building which is constructed above the ground level and it serves the purpose of structure’s intended use. It includes columns, beams, slab upwards including all finishes, door and window schedules, flooring, roofing, lintels, and parapets.

https://theconstructor.org/building/superstructure-substruct...

the only reservation (thus CL2) is that it could be interpreted as to include only the building, not all the equipment that goes in and on top (the radar antenna and all the accompanying electronics)

agree  SafeTex: "radar aeriel structure" might solve your reservation but it gets very few hits. I read "aeriel" in it as being in the air, not the component itself

-> CL2 so I'm not saying that it's THE term, but for sure it's closer to the mark than "array" which can't fit in this ST whichever way you try HERE it's ONLY ONE radar, not an "array of radars", nor a radar build as an "array" of repeated elements.

disagree  Daryo: you started from a false friend: "l'aérien" in this ST is the part of the whole radar installation that is "up the air/above the ground", not a radio "aerial" // an "array" is made of several interconnected identical elements see RAID, array of telescopes
1 day 8 hrs
-> Look at https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7052565 and you will see the term is also applied to radar installations

the aerial

Explanation:
"One firm part will be included and another optional part
The aerial installation for the radar from the point, aerial installation for the view-point."

Apparently the aerial is radar antenna.
"Antenna is a conductor by which electro-magnetic waves are sent out or received, commonly of a wire or set of wires often attached to metal rods: aerial."
"Radar antenna is a device which radiates radio frequency energy in a radar system, concentrating the transmitted power in the direction of a target, and which provides a large area to collect the echo power of the returning wave."
One part is for sound and the other is about vision.

www.wikipedia.org/wiki/radar
"Radar is a detection system which uses radio waves to detect aircraft, ships etc in the vicinity. Its antenna are used for receiving and transmitting information collected using electromagnetic waves in its radio domain. A receiver and processor determines properties of objects detected while radio waves reflect the object from the transmitter."

The radar exists to perceive and detect, collect information by means of radio waves. By reflecting the object from a transmitter the radar can transmit information connected with whatever it perceives in its vicinity. (wikipedia.org/wiki/radar)
The information is not the sound or vision itself but the information connected to its existence.

disagree  Tony M: This is a faux ami here: l'aérien is much more than JUST the antenna itself.... Specialist technical knowledge is crucial here.

disagree  Daryo: an "aerial" is used for "ordinary" radio equipment, a radar has an "antenna" (strictly speaking two: a transmitting antenna + a receiving antenna) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radar // there is NO SOUND whatsoever transmitted by a radar!!!
